Giving: Grudging Gifts

If you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First, go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.

Matthew 5:23-24 (NIV)

Most likely you’ve had people in your life, who gave you gifts with strings of guilt attached. You either needed or wanted the gift (and took it), but later wished you hadn’t:(

Complaint-minded givers give grudgingly.

  • They’re unhappy with life in general, and always looking for the worst to come, or…

  • They’re fearful that their own needs won’t be met– and have a “never-enough” attitude.

  • They may be Christians NOT walking in faith. They give because people around them give,

  • But their doubting hearts aren’t really in it. Their minds and hearts are at cross-purposes…

Lamentably, it’s not the Cross of Christ.

Here’s the thing:

When we’re mindful of HIM, we give kindly. When we’re mindful of US, grudges can come.

Here’s the thing about giving and grudges…: No matter the time, work, or wealth we give, if they come with invisible grudges– they’re worthless– and potentially harmful.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

I’m confident in your gracious giving. Your talent is a gift from your Father, and you’re passing this shiny gift forward– to uplift others and glorify Him.

As cheerful givers of hope, love, and joy, I believe Heaven applauds your great acts.

COMPASSIONATE NOTE: If you have grudging givers in your life, family who don’t give your dreams support, pray for them, but don’t let their doubts stop you. Like the brothers of Jesus and Joseph, your faith will (in God’s timing) lift them, too.

CAUTIONARY NOTE: God doesn’t accept gifts tied with grudges, as in… He doesn’t want your gifts to Him– if you harbor an unresolved conflict. Why? Simple answer: Your heart isn’t right. Second answer: He orders forgiveness. If needed, seek it, and ALWAYS extend it.

Giving: Grudging Gifts (Part 5)

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
